Area diamondmen named to TSWA All-State baseball teams


PEARLAND — The Texas Sports Writers Association recently released their 2021 All-State baseball teams and some area players were honored for their outstanding season.

Friendswood had a historical season and there were two players who were named to the first-team and the third-team Class 5A squads. Senior shortstop Izaac Pacheco was named to the first-team while junior pitcher Jacob Rogers was named to the third-team.

Friendswood finished the 2021 baseball season with a sparkling 31-3 overall record while advancing to the Class 5A Region III finals before falling to Barbers Hill. The Mustangs finished with a 16-0 District 24-5A mark to win the league championship.

Pacheco, who was the unanimous pick for MVP of District 24-5A, hit .543 with 35 runs scored, 34 RBIs, 9 doubles, 4 triples, and 5 home runs. He also led the Mustangs with 19 stolen bases.

Rogers was an unanimous choice as a first-team All-District pitcher after pitching 57.2 innings while striking out 80 and posting a 9-0 record with a 0.36 earned run average.

Senior catcher Dylan Maxcey was named honorable mention All-State after he hit .354 with 7 runs, 47 team-leading RBIs, 12 doubles, 1 triple and 6 home runs.

Manvel had three players named honorable mention. They were junior pitcher Sam Simmons, senior catcher Christian Garnette, and senior outfielder Tyson Dawson.

Shadow Creek had four players named to the Class 6A honorable mention All-State team. They were: senior pitcher Sebastian Soliz, senior relief pitcher Addison Parker, senior catcher Aidan Griggsby, and sophomore outfielder Tre Brossard.
