PEARLAND — Pearland head coach Ben Pardo has been at the helm of the Oilers' baseball program for nine years and led Pearland to the 2009 5A Region III championship and a trip to the 5A state baseball tournament. The Oilers lost a heartbreaker to Lufkin in the state semifinal game in extra innings.
Pardo recently received the inaugural Bragg Stockton Award by the Texas High School Baseball Coaching Association at the 39th annual convention in Waco.
Stockton was a high school and college baseball coaching legend in Texas. Stockton coached Pardo at the University of Houston which made the honor even more special to the Pearland mentor.
"This is a huge honor for me," Pardo said. "I know first-hand that when you played for him, it was more than just baseball as he taught character and integrity which are elements that you take beyond the baseball field."
Just as Stockton was a role model for his players, Pardo has proven that he, too, has been a tremendous influence on the the student-athletes that have come across his path in his 19 years of coaching which makes this award that more deserving. Pardo coached 11 years at Dickinson prior to his arrival at Pearland.
Pardo had his family with him which included his wife, LaShelle. The couple have three children, Malorie, age 17, Trevor, age 14, and Mariah, age 12.
