Lady O's win Barbers Hill tournament, Martens collects career win No. 100

PEARLAND — Pearland head coach Lauren Martens was presented with career win No. 100 when the Lady Oilers thrashed Beaumont West Brook 69-29 to send Pearland to the championship game against tournament host Barbers Hill.

The Lady Oiler won their first two games of the tournament against Concordia Lutheran (53-10) and Fort Bend Kempner (51-21).

There was never a doubt as to the outcome of the game against West Brook as Pearland took the first two quarters 12-3 and 20-9 for a 32-12 halftime lead. The Lady O's continued their dominance in the second half by running away with the game 17-11 and 20-6 for the 69-29 victory and Martens' 100th career win.

The win against West Brook sent the Lady Oilers to the championship game against tournament host Barbers Hill.

Pearland took the first quarter 13-6, but the Lady Eagles rallied to take the second period 17-11 leaving the Lady Oilers with a slim 24-23 halftime lead.

The third quarter belonged to the Lady Oilers 17-10 and giving them a 41-33 cushion entering the final frame.

Pearland sealed the win and the Barbers Hill Gulf Coast Classic Tournament with a closing 20-17 fourth quarter to capture the tournament title 61-50.

The Lady Oilers have also begun District 23-6A action and they are 2-1 with wins over Brazoswood (79-29) and Alief Taylor (31-23) while dropping a close game to George Ranch 47-45.

Pearland will host Alief Elsik on Friday, January 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Pearland High School.
