PEARLAND — Pearland head soccer coach Scott MacNeish saw his team win the championship trophy at the Clear Creek ISD soccer tournament. It is the first soccer trophy the boys have won since 2013. Pearland is now 6-1 at the start of the 2020 season and it is the best start under coach MacNeish.
There was a total of 18 teams in the tournament and the Oilers advanced to the championship game after posting wins over Elkins (3-1), Houston Westside (2-1), and Clear Lake (1-0).
Pearland faced the Baytown Sterling Rangers in the championship contest and came away with a close 3-2 victory.
The Oilers had the wind to their back in the first half and took advantage to build a 3-0 lead thanks to goals by forward Lorenzo Arrigoni and midfielders Ricky Seume and Edwin Cortez.
The Pearland defense took over in the second half as they limited the Rangers to only two goals which was good enough for the 3-2 win.
District play begins on Tuesday, January 28 when the Oilers travel to face the Alief Taylor Lions at 7:00 p.m.
