The Friendswood Mustangs fell behind 0-2 in the first half, but Mustang senior A.J. Buchman, with a monster game, foiled Clear Creek’s upset attempt, scoring four goals, for a 4-2 come from behind win Friday at Friendswood High School.

Falling behind 2-0 in the 36th minute, Buchman scored his first goal 2 minutes later when junior Connor Nash found him on a throw in.

With 4 seconds remaining before halftime, Buchman got clutch, using the post to beat the keeper and tying the game, 2-2, as the buzzer sounded.

With an excellent assist from senior Cory Thornton, Buchman scored again, earning a hat trick to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead in the 16th minute of the second half.

Thornton found Buchman again to finish off the Wildcats with 2 minutes left in the game.

In the 71st minute, Zach Montz blasted a ball into the box, which was deflected into the back of the net by A.J. Buchman. Goalkeeper Mason Hunnicutt logged the clean sheet.

"To be honest, I didn't think we'd be unbeaten at this point, but the kids have done a good job of stepping up to the occasion each night on the field so give them all the credit," Friendswood head coach Stephen Peter said.

"On defense, it's been a collective effort," Peter said. "We've been talking all year about dropping numbers in behind the ball and counter-attacking.

"It's worked thus far, and I don't think we'll be able to change our style from here. We're just making the most of our chances. We want to make teams have to do more from the outside or serve the ball from the wings."
