Lady Oilers continue unbeaten mark in 22-6A action

PEARLAND — The Pearland Lady Oilers continued to stay at the top of the District 22-6A leaderboard with three strong outings to improve to 7-0 in league play.

The Lady O's took a 2-1 win over district rival Alvin and former Dawson head coach David McCorkle who became the new head coach for the Lady Yellowjackets this year.

Pearland ace Alyssa Denham was in command in the pitching circle as she allowed only four hits while whiffing 14 Alvin batters while issuing only one walk.

The lone run that Alvin got didn't come until the top of the seventh inning with Pearland leading 2-0.

Bailey Thomas hit a 2-1 pitch lead off solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1, but that only fired up Denham as she fanned the next three hitters to end the game in favor of Pearland.

Pearland took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Sydney Gutierrez that scored Lindsey Stewart who reached base on a one-out single. Stewart stole second to set up the double by Gutierrez.

The Lady Oilers added another run in the bottom of the second when Janna Roberts got a one-out single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Madison Clements, and scored on a single by Stewart for a 2-0 lead.

That would be all the runs Pearland would need as Denham took over from there.

Pearland 14 - Sam Rayburn 3

There was no doubt as to the outcome of this game as Pearland scored four runs in the top of the first, three in the second, and five more in the third to jump out to a 12-0 lead against Sam Rayburn.

The Lady Texans did score three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 12-3, but the Lady O's ended the game with two more runs in the top of the sixth to post the 14-3 final score.

Pearland banged out 16 hits on offense while limiting the Lady Texans only six hits.

Pearland 9 - Pasadena Memorial 0

Senior pitcher Alyssa Denham shut down Pasadena Memorial while she was in the circle. Denham held Memorial hitless over four innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five.

Freshman pitcher Adrianna Chavarria stepped in relief in the fifth frame and also didn't allow a hit as Denham and Chavarria combined for a no-hit shutout over the Lady Mavericks. Chavarria also struck out five while issuing one walk.

Seven runs in the first three innings helped Pearland blow out Memorial.

An RBI single by Ashlynn Walls, a sacrifice fly by Alyssa Denham, an RBI single by Lindsey Stewart, a steal of home by Kaylee Buck, and an RBI single by Walls helped the Lady Oilers Varsity put some runs on the board early.

Walls was 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs. Buck was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

In the third, Pearland Lady Oilers Varsity scored on an RBI single by Janna Roberts that sent Lauren Shepherd across the plate.
