No. 1 Pearland shuts out South Houston 10-0

PEARLAND — The Texas High School Baseball Coaches have ranked Pearland as the No. 1 state-ranked team and the Oilers solidified that ranking with a 10-0 blanking over the South Houston Trojans in a six-inning contest shortened by the 10-run mercy rule.

Pearland cranked out six hits and 10 runs in support of the one-hit pitching of lefthander Brady Basso who allowed only one hit while fanning seven and three walks.

Ben Paddock was the big stick for the Oilers as he was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Pearland scored four runs in the first inning and then added at least one run over the next five frames with two of the runs coming in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Tyler Kimball also had a good outing going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Jacob Almendarez was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Pearland is now 12-1 overall and 3-0 in district.
