PEARLAND — It looks like another season where Pearland will totally dominate the teams from Alief ISD which is nothing new. The Lady Oilers played Taylor, Elsik, and Hastings in six game (two games each) and didn't allow a run while run ruling all three teams.

So far this season, Pearland has beaten Taylor (17-0) and Elsik (15-0) by a combined 32-0.

Hastings was next on the schedule, but the suspension of the season due to the Coronavirus has put a hold on the 2020 season.

The Lady Oilers are 3-0 this season in District 23-6A action with wins over Taylor, Dawson (11-6), and Elsik.

Pearland head coach Laneigh Clark begins this year with a 682-433-5 career mark and her record at Pearland HS is 575-197. Pearland finished 23-12 in 2019. Clark is the winningest 6A coach in Texas high school softball history and the second winningest Texas high school coach of any class. Only Guyla Smith of West High School in West, Texas has more wins.

So far this season, Pearland is 14-5-2 giving Clark 696 career wins and approaching the magic 700 wins. Only Clark and Smith will surpass that amazing feat as the two all-time winningest coaches in Texas High School softball history.

The Lady O's took only three innings to run-rule the hapless Lady Rams 15-0 as Abigail Gutierrez allowed only one hit, no runs, no walks while striking out six to get the win in the pitching circle.

Pearland scored six runs in the first frame, two in the second, and seven runs in the third to close out the game 15-0.

Leading hitters for Pearland included Alaina Hampton who launched a grandslam home run. Others who had outstanding offensive fireworks were Gabby Davila (2-for-2, 2 runs scored,,one RBI), Bridgett Verchiens (2-for-3, two runs scored, one RBI), Rylie Martin (2-for-2, three runs scored, two RBIs), Kayla Gonzalez (1-for-1, one run scored), Maddison Guillen (3-for-3, two runs scored, three RBIs), and Kristyn Whitlock (1-for-1, two runs scored, one RBI).

Now the team must wait to see how Coronavirus affects the remainder of the season. Obviously, the safety and health of all becomes the priority.
