Oilers nip Pasadena Memorial; fall to Westside


PEARLAND — Pearland kept their unbeaten district record intact at 7-0, but lost a non-district contest to drop to 15-3 overall.

The Oilers barely got by Pasadena Memorial 2-1 to stay undefeated in league action and atop the district leaderboard as the first round is coming to a close.

Brady Basso worked the first five innings, striking out 10 before Mason Van Noort pitched the final two innings, fanning four, walked two and surrendered no hits to pick up the victory.

Jacob Whitehead scored a run in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 Pearland lead.

The Mavericks tied up the game in the top of the second 1-1. The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth frame.

Craig Mattes drove in a sixth-inning run to lift the Oilers (15-2) to their 13th straight win. Pearland managed just two three hits and scored their only other run in the first inning. Parker DeLeon got the only other hit for the Oilers.


Westside 5 - Pearland 1

The bats were silent for the Pearland Oilers in a 5-1 non-district loss to Westside.

Westside took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Pearland cut the margin to a run in the bottom of the third making the score 2-1.

Caleb Maly drove in Pearland’s lone run in the third inning as Ryan Finke crossed the plate.

Westside added three more runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-1 which turned out to be the final score.

The Oilers (15-3), who have scored just seven runs in their last three games, managed only two hits and committed three errors.

The loss snapped the Oilers’ 13-game win streak.

Pearland will travel to face Dobie on Friday, April 1 at 4:00 p.m. The Oilers will host Pasadena on Tuesday, April 5 at 7:00 p.m.
