Pearland boys soccer takes out Clear Falls 3-1 in first round

PEARLAND — The Pearland Oilers faced District 24-6A runner-up Clear Falls in the opening round of the Class 6A Region III soccer playoffs and came away with a 3-1 win to advance to the next round where they will face the Humble Wildcats.

Clear Falls drew first blood in the match in the 12th minute when Dom Konwinski sent a perfect pass to Carlos Loredo, who flicked a header past the Pearland goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.

But Pearland would respond with two unanswered goals for a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Pearland tied up the contest in the 25th minute when Gerardo Cruz sent a well-placed assist to Skyler Krchnak, who beat the keeper one-on-one to knot the score 1-1.

Roughly four minutes later, Pearland got the go-ahead goal when Clear Falls committed a handball infraction inside of the penalty box to give the Oilers a penalty kick opportunity, which Yousef Elnokali put in the back of the net with a beauty of a kick for a 2-1 lead.

Both teams played hard in the second half, but only Pearland was able to find the net on offense.

In the 55th minute, Pearland's Thomas McNamera looped a free kick from about 21 yards out into the goal for the final 3-1 score.
