Pearland pounds Manvel; falls to Dobie

PEARLAND — Pearland banged out 14 hits to score 13 runs in a District 22-6A rout against the Manvel Mavericks.
The Oilers scored four runs in the top of the first. a run in the second, two runs in the fourth, two runs in the sixth and four more in the top of the seventh for the 13-1 victory.
Manvel scored one run in the bottom of the first before the Oilers took over the game.
Senior pitcher Brady Basso picked up the win after allowing only two hits and one unearned run with two strikeouts in six innings of work.
Macord Foran led the offense going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Jacob Whitehead was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Caleb Maly was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Baily Cummings was 1-for-1 with one run scored and one RBI. Hunter Smith was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Craig Mattes was 1-for-1 with a two-run homer.
Foran, Cody Williams, Maly, and Cummings all had doubles.
Dobie 5 - Pearland 4
Pearland suffered its first District 22-6A loss. The Oilers (16-4, 8-1) trailed 4-0 entering the seventh inning against Pasadena Dobie, but scored four times to tie the game, only to see the Longhorns score in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 win.
