Lady Oilers blank Lady Eagles 5-0; playoffs next


PEARLAND — The Pearland Lady Oilers closed out the 2021 regular season with a 5-0 shutout over cross-town cousin Dawson and now the Lady O's are ready to face the Dickinson Lady Gators in the Class 6A Region III bi-district round of the post-season.

Pearland will face Dickinson in a best-of-three series beginning on Thursday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. Game Two will be on Friday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m. with Game Three (if necessary) 30 minutes after game two. All games will be played at Dickinson High School.

The Lady O's finished the regular season with a 22-8-1 mark with their 5-0 win over Dawson.

Gabby Davilia (3-for-4, 1 run scored) opened the game with a triple and scored on a one-out error for an early 1-0 lead.

Pearland added three runs in the third led by Kristyn Whitlock and Raenna Liscano, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

The Lady Oilers added one more run in the top of the fourth to make the final score 5-0.

Abigail Gutierrez got the win for Pearland as the southpaw allowed six hits and no runs over seven innings, striking out nine.

Gigi Solis took the loss for Dawson. Solis lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out one.

Pearland collected ten hits against Dawson. Davila, Whitlock (2-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), and Alayna Calvillo (2-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), as each had multiple hits.

The Lady Oilers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Bella Rodriguez had the most chances in the field with 11.
