Denham, Gutierrez, Rodriguez named to TGCA All-State team

PEARLAND — The Pearland Lady Oilers had two players and the Dawson Lady Eagles had one player named to the 2015 Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State team. Pearland Junior pitcher Alyssa Denham and junior Sydney Gutierrez were both honored by the TGCA.

Denham was named the District 22-6A Most Valuable Player after posting a 21-2 mark in the pitching circle. She posted a 1.114 ERA while striking out 181.

Denham also helped her cause at the plate as she hit .261 with one double and five RBIs. She has committed to play at the University of Texas-Arlington following her senior year in 2016.

First baseman Gutierrez was named to the All-District first-team after batting .477 with one double, three triples, seven home runs, 29 RBIs, and 25 runs scored with an .890 slugging percentage. She has committed to play at Missouri.

Dawson junior Rylee Rodriguez was also named to the All-State team. Rodriguez was named to the All-District 22-6A team as the third baseman. Rodriquez is a hitting machine as she had a .561 batting average. She walked 29 times as opposing teams didn't want to pitch to her. She had six doubles, one triple, and 11 home runs with 41 RBIs and 41 runs scored.
