Jamie Gill set to guide Pearland volleyball fortunes

PEARLAND — New Pearland volleyball coach Jamie Gill returns to familiar territory to guide the Lady Oilers after nine years as the head coach at Tuloso-Midway High School.

Gill, a 2004 Friendswood graduate, replaces Christian Dunn, who resigned earlier this season for personal reasons.

The former Lady Mustang has experienced nothing but success as a player and a coach.

Gill was a standout for Friendswood as she made three trips to the Class 4A state semifinals while she was in high school in 2000, 2002 and 2003.

After she graduated from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Gill began her high school coaching career as the head volleyball coach at Ingleside, where she took the school to the playoffs four times in five years.

She then moved on to Tuloso-Midway where her teams made the playoffs every year, including appearances at four regional tournaments and two state tournaments while the Lady Cherokees also secured multiple district titles.

In 2016, Tuloso-Midway registered a 40-9 record, losing in the state semifinals to state-power Amarillo, 26-28, 25-15, 25-20, 25-19.

The Lady Sandies went on to beat Cedar Park to claim the state title in four games.

In 2017, Tuloso-Midway advanced to the state tournament with a 43-4 record before falling to Prosper, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13.

Prosper also won the state title, defeating Leander Rouse in five games.

Gill was awarded District 30-5A "Coach of the Year" in 2015 and 2016. Under her coaching TM won it’s first district volleyball championship, as well as made it’s first appearances in the Regional Tournament and State Final Four for the first time in school history.

Gill is a graduate of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi where she obtained a degree in Kinesiology.

There is no question Gill brings the pedigree and experience to make Pearland a force in volleyball.
