Dawson, Pearland softball standouts honored

PEARLAND — The post-season honors continue for area softball players for their outstanding play during the 2015 softball season.
The Houston Chronicle announced their annual All-Greater Houston teams and the Dawson Lady Eagles and the Pearland Lady Oilers had players that were honored this year.
Pearland had two players and Dawson had two players who received the prestigious honor.
Pearland junior pitcher Alyssa Dunham was named to the first-team and junior outfielder Lindsey Stewart was named to the second-team.
Dawson junior third baseman Rylee Rodriquez and senior outfielder Heaven Benavidez were both named the first-team.
Denham was named the District 22-6A Most Valuable Player and the TGCA All-State team after posting a 21-2 mark in the pitching circle. She posted a 1.114 ERA while striking out 181.
Denham also helped her cause at the plate as she hit .261 with one double and five RBIs. She has committed to play at the University of Texas-Arlington following her senior year in 2016.
Stewart was also a District 22-6A first-team selection after she hit .474 with one triple, six RBIs, 23 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases. She is one of the most dangerous leadoff hitters in the Houston area and uses her speed on offense and defense to be a real difference maker.
Rodriguez was also named to the TGCA All-State team. Rodriguez was named to the All-District 22-6A team as the third baseman. Rodriquez is a hitting machine as she had a .561 batting average. She walked 29 times as opposing teams didn't want to pitch to her. She had six doubles, one triple, and 11 home runs with 41 RBIs and 41 runs scored.
