Area teams compete at State 7-on-7 Tournament

PEARLAND — The Dawson Eagles, Manvel Mavericks, and Pearland Oilers all qualified and participated at the 2016 state 7-on-7 tournament in College Station.
All three advanced to the championship bracket to compete for the 7-on-7 state championship.
Dawson was in a four-team pool with Hendrickson, John Tyler, and South Hills. The Eagles emerged with a 2-1 mark after defeating Hendrickson 20-19 and South Hills 26-21, but they fell to John Tyler 33-19.
Dawson and John Tyler advanced to the championship bracket.
Manvel was in a four-team pool with Arlington Bowie, Lake Travis, and West Brook. The Mavs finished pool play with a 3-0 mark after getting wins over West Brook 32-19, Arlington Bowie 32-24, and Lake Travis 35-28.
Pearland was in a four-team pool with Central, North Crowley, and Plano West. The Oilers finished with a 2-1 mark getting wins over Plano West 26-20, North Crowley 40-32 while falling to Central 35-34.
The Championship Bracket placed Dawson against The Woodlands in the first round with the Eagles dropping a heartbreaker 33-32.
Pearland opened up against San Antonio O'Connor and fell 41-12 to be eliminated.
Manvel advanced to the Division I state quarterfinals after beating Abilene Cooper 50-14 and Cy-Ranch 38-8, but came up short against Dickinson 40-36.
The Woodlands pulled out the 2016 Division I State Championship with a 32-26 win over the Dickinson Gators.
Dickinson beat John Tyler 39-20 to advance to the finals while The Woodlands knocked off DeSoto 32-26 in their semifinal contest.
