PEARLAND — The Texas Sports Writers Association has honored players for the Dawson Lady Eagles and the Pearland Lady Oilers. Pearland had four players honored and Dawson had three players.

Junior first baseman Sydney Gutierrez was named to the All-State second-team. Gutierrez batting .477 with one double, three triples, seven home runs, 29 RBIs, and 25 runs scored with an .890 slugging percentage. She has committed to play at Missouri.

Junior pitcher Alyssa Denham was named to the All-State third-team. Denham was named the District 22-6A Most Valuable Player after posting a 21-2 mark in the pitching circle. She posted a 1.114 ERA while striking out 181. Denham also helped her cause at the plate as she hit .261 with one double and five RBIs. She has committed to play at the University of Texas-Arlington following her senior year in 2016.

Joining Denham on the third-team All-State team was junior outfielder Lindsey Stewart and senior utility/designated player Sydney McKay.

Stewart was a first-team All-District selection after she hit .474 with one triple, six RBIs, 23 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases. She is one of the most dangerous leadoff hitters in the Houston area and uses her speed on offense and defense to be a real difference maker.

McKay was also named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star team. McKay was recently named to the All-District first-team after batting .506 with seven doubles, two triples, 28 RBIs, 12 runs scored and only two strikeouts all season. She has been honored on the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State team. She is committed to continue her education and playing career at the University of Lousiana-Monroe.

Dawson had three players named to the All-State second-team which included sophomore shortstop Amber Langston, junior third baseman Rylee Rodriquez, and senior outfielder Heaven Benavides.

Rodriguez was also named to the TGCA All-State and All-District 22-6A team as the third baseman. Rodriquez is a hitting machine as she had a .561 batting average. She walked 29 times as opposing teams didn't want to pitch to her. She had six doubles, one triple, and 11 home runs with 41 RBIs and 41 runs scored.
