Dawson sweeps Pearland in critical volleyball match — The No. 10 state-ranked Dawson Lady Eagles are on a quest to capture the 2019 District 23-6A championship and one of the obstacles in their path are their cross-town cousin Pearland Lady Oilers.

Dawson rolled to a 25-11, 25-15, 25-20 win before an energy-filled crowd at the Dawson gym in the district opener for both teams.

Alexis Jones led the offensive attack for Dawson with 17 kills and eight digs while Nicole Deslatte added 10. Allyah McDonald had four blocks. Kamryn Scroggins had 14 digs and 28 assists.

McDonald, who recently set the school record for most career blocks at 354, is now closing in on 400 for her career. She was honored at the game.

Kaylie Kovach and Jackie Arrington each had six kills for Pearland while April Conant had three blocks. Emily Smajstrla had 10 digs and Chloe Jordan had 14 digs while Jenna Gray had 11 assists.

Dawson 3 - Brazoswood 0

Dawson hosted Brazoswood in their second district contest of the season and swept the Lady Bucs 25-15, 25-17, 25-18 to improve their season record to 29-4 and 2-0 in league play.

Alexia Jones led the offense with 11 kills and 12 digs while Allyah McDonald had eight kills and Kylie Nance had seven kills. Kamryn Scroggins had 25 assists.

Pearland 3 - Alief Taylor 0

The Pearland Lady Oilers opened District 23-6A with a 3-0 sweep of Alief Taylor 25-6, 25-14, 25-14.

The Lady Oilers were led by April Conant who had 13 kills, Jackie Arrington who had 17 kills, and Kaylie Kovach who added 12 kills. Jenna Gray had 29 assists while Chloe Jordan had 14 digs.

Pearland 3 - Alief Elsik 0

Pearland rebounded from their loss to Dawson to sweep Alief Elsik 25-14, 25-14, 25-18.

Kaylie Kovach led the offense with 12 kills while Jackie Arrington had 11 kills and April Conant added six kills. Jenna Gray had 19 assists and Chloe Jordan had 15 digs with Emily Smajstrla adding 13 digs.

Friendswood 3 - Texas City 0

The Friendswood Lady Mustangs swept the Texas City Lady Stings in a competitive match 3-0.

Friendswood won three very competitive games 25-23, 25-18, 25-22 to open up District 22-5A action.

The Lady Mustangs were led Makensy Manbeck with 19 kills while Ashlyn Svoboda added 12 kills. Gillian Smith had 12 digs while Tori Weatherley and Svoboda each had 10 digs. Weatherley had 45 assists.
