Friendswood 56, Texas City 35

After a closely contested first half, the Friendswood Lady Mustangs (3-0 in district) dominated the second half to come away with the win over the Texas City Lady Stings on Tuesday.

The Lady Stings led 26-25 at the halftime break, but the Lady Mustangs won the third quarter, 17-6, and fourth quarter, 14-3, to cruise to victory.

Bella McElwain led Friendswood with 12 points, followed closely by Ashlyn Mason with 11 points. Tahjea Smith led Texas City with 14 points and 14 rebounds.


Alief Taylor 44 - Pearland 39

The Pearland Lady Oilers suffered their first District 23-6A loss of the season when they dropped a close 44-39 decision to the Alief Taylor Lady Lions.

Pearland is now 2-1 in the first round of league play after opening up district with wins over Brazoswood (61-40) and George Ranch (58-43).

Taylor opened up the first quarter with a 10-8 lead, but the Lady Oilers took the second period 7-5 to tie up the game at 15-15 at intermission in a low scoring contest.

The second half was the difference for the Lady Lions as they took the third quarter 18-14 and the final frame 11-10 for the 44-39 victory.

The Lady O's were led by Macey Braswell with 16 points and five steals while Kaylie Kovach tossed in seven points and Madison Gissendanner added six points.


Pearland 58 - George Ranch 43

George Ranch took the opening quarter 13-10 and then Pearland took over the rest of the game in a 58-43 win over the Lady Longhorns.

Pearland took the lead in the second period 15-10 for a 25-23 advantage at halftime.

But the third quarter was all Pearland 14-4 for a 39-27 lead entering the final eight minutes of action.

The Lady O's sealed the game 19-16 in the final frame for the 58-43 district win.

Macey Braswell led Pearland with 19 points while Kaylie Kovach tossed in 12 and DeYona Gaston added 10.
