Lady Oilers get past Lady Eagles 51-36


PEARLAND — There is always a big crowd and a lot of energy when Pearland and Dawson play each other -- no matter what sport.

The Pearland Lady roundballers made their way to Dawson to face the Lady Eagles in a District 23-6A showdown in league play.

Pearland used a first half surge to take a 31-15 lead at intermission, withstood a strong third quarter by the Lady Eagles 12-8, and then coasted to a fourth period 12-9 to post the 51-36 district win.

The Lady Oilers jumped out to a 16-8 first quarter lead and continued to control the game in the second period 15-7.

De Yona Gaston led the Pearland offense with 19 points while Alaina Hampton tossed in 12 points and Kyah Barlow added 11 points.

Barlow was 5-of-6 from the free throw line and Hampton was 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. Pearland was 13-of-18 as a team.

Gaston pulled down seven rebounds while Barlow grabbed five boards.

The Lady Oilers also had 12 steals.

Dawson was led by freshman Jalayah Ingram who scored 14 points while getting help from fellow freshman Kennedy Ford who added nine points.

Ford was 5-for-8 from the free throw line while Ingram was 4-of-8. As a team, Dawson was 11-of-20 from the charity line. Dawson outrebounded the visitors 37 to 23.

Pearland improved to 15-10 overall and 4-1 in district while Dawson drops to 16-11 and 3-1 in league action.
