Area volleyball standouts named to FAB 50


PEARLAND — The Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association has announced their FAB 50 players in the Houston area for the upcoming 2015 high school volleyball season.

Pearland head coach John Turner is the Executive Director of this organization and was pleased to announce that the Lady Oilers had three players named to this prestigious group of players.

"We are honored to announce that Brooke Botkin has been selected as the "Pre-Season Player of the Year in the Greater Houston Area," Turner said. "She is the first junior to win this award since its inception."

Botkin was named to the Class 6A All-State first-team by the state writers her sophomore season.

She was also named District 22-6A MVP, registered 633 kills, 446 digs, 49 aces, and 45 blocks in 2014. She has verbally committed to the University of Southern California Lady Trojans.

Joining Botkin from Pearland is Amanda Chapa and Hannah Ofczarzak.

Chapa earned honors as an All-District 22-6A first-team and All-Academic performer. The 5-3 Libero was named to two All-Tournament Teams (Adidas Texas Volleyball Invitational and was named as the Outstanding Defensive Player at the Spring Branch ISD Tournament.

Chapa is a member of the Prep Volleyball Class of 2015 Top 100. She had 690 digs and 40 aces for the 2014 season. She will certainly be a team leader in 2015. Chapa has verbally committed to Abilene Christian University.

Ofczarzak was named to the All-District 22-6A first-team. The 6-0 junior outside hitter had 370 kills and 44 blocks.

The Dawson Lady Eagles also had two outstanding players named to the FAB 50.

Senior MB Zoe Hill and junior Libero Jordan Brown were also honored.

Manvel sophomore setter Emily DeMarco was also selected.
