PEARLAND — Dawson senior first baseman Adam Houghtaling and Pearland senior-to-be outfielder Mason Lytle were both honored by the Texas Sports Writers Association as the pair were named to the Class 6A All-State team as honorable mention.
While they missed being named to the first three All-State teams, it is still an honor because it means they received votes from the TSWA writers for their outstanding performance this past season making them elite players in the state.
Houghtaling was selected as the District 23-6A MVP as the Eagles captured the league title. Houghtaling was 3-1 with a 1.27 ERA while pitching 55 innings with 65 strikeouts. He was also a beast at the plate hitting .480 with 10 runs scored, 16 RBIs, 14 doubles, and two triples. He was also named to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star squad.
Lytle was a clutch player for the Oilers this season and was an All-District 23-6A first-team selection. Only a junior, Lytle will certainly return for his senior year as one of the team leaders.
