Friendswood Lady Mustangs
Kingwood Park 3 - Friendswood 1
The Friendswood Lady Mustangs were unable to avenge last year’s Region III-5A championship match loss, falling on the road against defending state champion Kingwood Park by the scores of 25-20, 27-25, 24-26 and 25-17.
Ashlyn Svoboda led Friendswood’s effort with nine kills and 10 digs.
Dawson Lady Eagles
Dawson 3 - Clear Springs 0
The No. 7 Class 6A state-ranked Dawson Lady Eagles swept a very good Clear Springs volleyball team 25-21, 28-26, and 25-14.
In the opening set, Springs stayed close early, but Dawson forged a 20-15 lead late in the match. Clear Springs mounted a charge to close the gap to 21-20, but Dawson went on a 4-1 run to take the opening game 25-21.
The second match set the tone for the next two games as Dawson built a 19-14 advantage before seeing the lead vanish as Springs went on a 6-0 run to take a 20-19 lead.
However, after Dawson tied up the game 20-20, Dawson's Madison Deslatte gave the Lady Eagles a 21-20 lead with a kill shot which would spark the Lady Eagles to a 28-26 win.
Clear Springs tied the second set six times down the stretch, Dawson finally put the set away helped by a Kylie Nance slam.
The third game wasn't as close in the end. With the score tied 7-7, Dawson went on a 14-2 run for a 21-9 lead and closed out the game 25-14.
Dawson 3 - Clear Creek 0
Dawson played two tough District 24-6A teams and came away with two victories. The Lady Eagles swept Clear Creek and Clear Springs.
The Lady Eagles swept Clear Creek 25-18, 25-12, and 25-13 in dominating fashion.
With the first game tied 1-1, that would be as close as the Lady Wildcats would get to a much more superior Dawson team who raced out to a quick 9-2 lead capped by a Madison Deslatte kill.
Clear Creek rallied to close the game to 20-17, but Dawson wrapped up the opening match with a 5-1 run for a 25-18 win.
In the second match, Dawson built a quick an 8-2 thanks to back-to-back kills by Deslatte.
Trailing 10-4, Clear Creek went on a 5-0 run to close the margin to 10-9.
After a needed time out by Dawson, the Lady Eagles went on an 8-0 tirade to double the lead to 18-9. Dawson closed out the match 7-3 for a 25-12 final.
The third match saw Dawson build a 5-1 lead, but after Clear Creek got within 8-6, Dawson put the hammer down for a 13-3 run and a 21-6 lead.
The Lady Eagles closed out the sweep with a 25-12 win.
Pearland Lady Oilers
Pearland 3 - Cy-Ridge 0
The Pearland Lady Oilers swept Cy-Ridge 25-8, 25-13, and 25-18 in a non-district contest.
Jackie Arrington led the Lady O's to the win with 15 kills on offense while April Conant added 10 kills, and three blocks.
Jenna Gray had 19 assists, four aces, and 12 digs. Chloe Jordan added nine digs.
