No. 6 area-ranked Bridgeland edges Shadow Creek 24-14

SHADOW CREEK — For the second straight year, the Shadow Creek Sharks have fallen victim to the No. 6 area-ranked Bridgeland Bears 24-14.

Last season, the two young schools met for the first time and the Bears came away with a hard-fought 27-21 victory.

This year, the Bears (2-0) jumped out to a 17-0 first half lead and it looked like it would be a romp, but Shadow Creek (0-2) wasn't going to give in that easy and they battled back in the second half with two touchdowns, one each quarter, to cut the gap to 17-14.

With 5:45 left in the third period, junior quarterback Duke Butler hit freshman wide receiver Jacorey Watson on a 28-yard scoring strike to cut the lead to 17-7.

The Sharks scored again in the fourth quarter when they picked off their fourth pass interception of the game.

This time is was junior linebacker Robert Edmonson picking off his second interception of the game and returning it for a 52-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 17-14 with 10:48 to play in the game.

Bridgeland responded with a 14-play, 71-yard scoring drive that took 6:33 off the clock for a 24-14 lead that ended up being the final score.

Shadow Creek took the ensuing kickoff and got to the Bridgeland 45. Facing fourth and 17 with 1:54 left in the game, the Sharks completed a pass that came up five yards short of the first down allowing the Bears to take possession to run out the clock for the win.

The defense for the Sharks had an outstanding game as they picked off four passes.

Edmonson had two interceptions while returning one for a 52-yard TD. Junior Sean Gilbert and sophomore Maurice Williams also picked off one each.

Butler was 10-of-18 passing for 110 yards and one TD while rushing for 36 yards on 13 carries.

Watson had three catches for 51 yards and one score while junior WR Caleb Washington had four catches for 35 yards and sophomore Tylik Burton had two grabs for 20 yards.

The Sharks will travel to face Cypress Woods on Friday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m. at FCU Stadium.
