Shadow Creek gets past Cy-Woods 28-11

SHADOW CREEK — The Shadow Creek Sharks probably had the toughest non-district schedule in the state after facing state-powers North Shore and Bridgeland -- both ranked in the top 10 in the Houston area.

The Sharks fell to both teams, but they came out a much tougher squad that helped them defeat the Cy-Woods Wildcats 28-11 for their first victory of the 2021 season.

Shadow Creek struck the first blow with 4:32 left in the opening quarter when junior quarterback Duke Butler found Caleb Washington on a 5-yard scoring toss for a 7-0 lead.

The Wildcats picked up two-points on a safety with 9:29 left in the second period, but the Sharks got another score on a Butler to Jo'Qwan West 10-yard scoring strike with 2:43 remaining in the second period to make the score 14-2.

With no time on the first half clock, Cy-Woods hit a 27-yard field goal to make the score 14-5 at intermission.

Cy-Woods began the second half by scoring on their first possession to close the gap at 14-11 after Ethan White scored on a 2-yard plunge with 9:37 left in the third. The PAT missed the mark.

It took the Sharks 16 seconds to answer as senior Dejuan Lewis took the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for the touchdown and a 21-11 lead.

Shadow Creek shut the door on the Wildcats late in the fourth frame with a Tylik Burton 7-yard scoring run. The PAT by Matt Allison was good the 28-11 final score was posted with 2:26 remaining in the game.

Butler was 11-for-21 for 144 yards and two TDs.

Junior Felix Buchanan led the ground attack with 14 carries for 71 yards while West had five catches for 61 yards and one score.

Shadow Creek is idle this week, but will host Alief Taylor on Friday, September 24 at Freedom Field at 7:00 p.m. when District 23-6A action begins.
