Shadow Creek holds off Strake Jesuit 35-20

SHADOW CREEK — Shadow Creek jumped out to a 28-6 lead before Strake Jesuit cut the lead to 28-20 late in the fourth quarter setting up the Sharks final touchdown at the 4:30 mark to seal the District 23-6A 35-20 win.

In the important league contest, Shadow Creek scored two touchdowns in the first quarter when Caleb Washington caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Duke Butler at the 8:06 mark for the 7-0 lead. The Sharks bumped the lead to 14-0 on a 9-yard pass to Jo'Quan West from Butler with 4:52 left in the opening frame.

Neither team scored in the second period leaving Shadow Creek with a 14-0 halftime lead.

The Sharks began the third quarter with a touchdown to extend their lead to 21-0.

Felix Buchanan found paydirt on a 3-yard run while Matt Allison added his third PAT of the game.

Strake finally found the end zone on a Bryce Fucik 5-yard run with 5:04 left in the third period, but they missed the PAT to leave the Sharks with a 21-6 advantage.

Shadow Creek would add to their lead early in the fourth quarter when West snagged his second scoring pass from Butler covering 15-yards. The PAT was good by Allison for a 28-6 lead with 10:26 remaining in the game.

The Crusaders would score on a 5-yard run by Fucik and again in less that two minutes when Fucik would hit Chico Holt on a 53-yard strike to cut the lead to a one score game 28-20 with 6::53 left.

But the Sharks would come up with a big play when Butler hit Buchanan on a 43-yard scoring pass to make the score 35-20 with 4:30 left in the game.

Shadow Creek is now 4-2 overall and 3-0 in district while Strake drops to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the league standings.

Butler was 6-of-15 passing for 143 yards and four TDs while rushing for 74 yards on 10 carries.

West had five catches for 72 yards and a pair of scores.

Shadow Creek will travel to Alvin Memorial Stadium on Friday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. to face the Alvin Yellowjackets.
