No. 1 Shadow Creek remains unbeaten with win over Foster

MANVEL SHADOW CREEK — When the pre-season picks for the 2019 season were announced, the Foster Falcons were picked to finish No. 1 in District 10-5A-I while state-finalist Shadow Creek was selected No. 2 -- which was far better than the Sharks being picked No. 6 at the start of last season.

Of course, we all knew how that played out with Shadow Creek going 15-1 in their first varsity season and playing Highland Park for the 5A Div. I state title at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Foster lost to Friendswood 34-32 two weeks ago and now they have another loss after the Sharks beat them 24-17 at Traylor Stadium last week on Thursday night.

Shadow Creek is now 8-0 overall and 5-0 in district play with two games remaining against Hightower and Terry.

The Sharks took care of business against Foster in a 24-17 district win to give the Falcons their second straight loss to move them to fourth place in the league standings.

The game was not as close as the final score as the Sharks were ahead 24-10 until Foster scored with 1:52 left in the contest. An onside kick was attempted, but recovered by Shadow Creek who ran out the time on the clock to preserve the victory.

Foster struck first in the opening quarter as they scored on an 80-yard, nine-play drive as QB Ryan Stubblefield scored on a 6-yard keeper with 8:40 left in the opening quarter for a 7-0 lead.

The two teams traded punts before Shadow Creek began their second possession on their own 23. The Sharks used a 11-play, 77-yard drive to score on a 15-yard Kyron Drones to Jared Jackson pass play with 8.9 seconds left in the first period to tie up the game at 7-7.

The Falcons would take advantage of an interception to score on a 25-yard field goal with 6:45 left in the second quarter making the score 10-7.

But Shadow Creek would answer with a 33-yard drive after they blocked a Foster punt with 2:11 left before halftime.

It took only five plays as Drones scored on a 20-yard quarterback draw for a 14-10 advantage with 1:11 left before intermission.

The second-half became a defensive battle as the two team traded punts.

With 5:58 left in the third period, Foster fumbled and Jorge Jones recovered on the 46-yard line of the Falcons.

Once again, it was Drones to Jackson covering 32-yards for a touchdown that gave the Sharks a 21-10 lead with 4:19 left in the third quarter.

The Sharks scored again in the fourth quarter when Eric Landaverde booted a 25-yard field goal with 7:58 remaining in the final period for a 24-10 lead.

Stubblefield scored the final touchdown in the final minutes on a 5-yard run making the final score 24-17.

Drones was the catalyst for the offense as he was 12-of-26 passing for 160 yards and two TDs and two INTS. He also had nine carries for 77 yards and one score.

Kelvon Brown had 11 carries for 58 yards while Jay'veon Bell had 15 carries for 45 yards.

Jared Jackson had seven catches for 116 yards and two TDs.

Shadow Creek will travel to face Hightower at Hall Stadium on Thursday, October 31 at 7:00 p.m.
