Shadow Creek pounds Clear Creek 55-6 to advance


SHADOW CREEK — Shadow Creek was a little slow coming out of the gate, but the Sharks gained momentum each quarter to post a lopsided 55-6 win over the Clear Creek Wildcats in the opening round of the Class 6A Region III Div. II playoffs.

This was the first playoff win for Shadow Creek since moving up to Class 6A after capturing the Class 5A Div. I state title in 2019.

The game was never in doubt as the Sharks took a 20-0 lead at halftime and then added 35 more points in the second half before allowing a late Clear Creek score at the end of the game for the 55-6 win.

Shadow Creek scored on their second possession of the game when senior QB Kyron Drones hit C.J. Guidry on a 12-yard pass to make the score 7-0 with 3:09 left in the first period.

With 6:42 left in the second quarter, junior RB Kelvon Brown would score on a 1-yard plunge for a 14-0 lead.

The Sharks would add a final score in the first half when Drones would hit Lawrence Armstrong on a beautiful post pattern with 2:48 left before intermission. The PAT was no good and the Sharks went into the dressing leading 20-0.

Shadow Creek added three more scores in the third quarter on a 1-yard score off the left side by Brown with 8:27 left to complete a nine-play, 56-yard drive to begin the second half making the score 27-0.

The Sharks quickly scored again when Isaiah Harper scampered across the goal line on a 9-yard run with 7:10 left in the third making the score 34-0.

A third score came late in the third quarter when Drones found Armstrong open on a 23-yard scoring pass to increase the lead 41-0.

Placekicker Felix Buchanan added a 23-yard field goal and QB Duke Butler scored on a 1-yard keeper to finalize the Shadow Creek scoring making the final 55-6.

Drones finished the game hitting 11-of-19 passing for 170 yards and three TDs while rushing for 47 yards on six carries.

Brown had 113 yards on 14 totes and two scores.

Armstrong had three catches for 86 yards and two TDs while Greg Hancock had three catches for 33 yards and Guidry had four grabs for 46 yards and one score.

Shadow Creek will face C.E. King on Friday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Challenger-Columbia Stadium in League City.
