Butler, Sharks honored by Texas Sports Writers

SHADOW CREEK — Shadow Creek head football coach Brad Butler was selected as the Texas Sports Writers Association "Co-Coach of the Year" for leading the Sharks to the Class 5A Division I state title game against Dallas Highland Park.

The Sharks came up short 27-17 to the Scots who won their third straight state championship, but sharing the "Coach of the Year" honor with Highland Park's Randy Allen was only fitting as the Sharks finished 15-1 in their first varsity season.

There is a very close connection between Butler and Allen as the Shadow Creek mentor was an All-State quarterback at Brownwood High School and his coach was Highland Park coach Randy Allen.

The TSWA also selected several players of Shadow Creek on their All-State teams.

Selected to the All-State first-team was junior defensive back Xavion Alford (6-1, 180) who had 53 tackles, 6 interceptions, 12 pass break ups, and one defensive touchdown. Alford was also named to the All-District and All-Greater Houston teams.

Selected to the All-State second-team included:

Senior quarterback Jamarian George completed 178 of 287 passing for 2,961, 33 TDs, 4 INTs while also rushing for 457 yards on 132 carries and 11 TDs. George was named District 10-5A-1 MVP and was selected to the All-Greater Houston team.

Senior offensive tackle Cam'Ron Johnson (6-4, 285) registered 43 pancakes, 61 knockdowns, 90% grade for blocking. Johnson was a first-team All-District pick and was selected to the All-Greater Houston team.

Junior linebacker Jeremiah Harris (5-8, 255) had 67 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and 7 quarterback pressures while also being named to the All-District squad.

Named All-State honorable was senior running back Marquez Huland (5-10, 181) and senior defensive lineman Alec Bryant (6-3, 230).
