Shadow Creek continues unbeaten season with win over Porter

PEARLAND SHADOW CREEK — The Shadow Creek Sharks finished their first varsity season unbeaten at 10-0 and they now have won their first varsity playoff game with a 37-30 win over the Porter Spartans in the Class 5A Region III Div. I playoffs.

The Sharks advance to the area round to face Cedar Park on Friday, November 23 at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan at 7:00 p.m.

There is no question that the talent is on the field for the Sharks, but they are lacking experience on being on the playoff stage which is something they are going to have to learn with each snap of the ball.

It was evident that the nerves played a factor in their game with Porter as they found themselves trailing early in the game placing them in a position to play catch up as there is no tomorrow at this stage of the season with a loss.

Porter scored first in the opening period for a 7-0 lead and then the Sharks got a scoring toss at the end of the first quarter from QB Jamarian George to Carlton Guidry to tie up the game at 7-7

The Spartans then went on the offensive in the second quarter to post 16 unanswered points to build a 23-7 lead at intermission.

Shadow Creek is no stranger from having to play from behind this season after a big come-from-behind rally to edge Foster 35-34 after being behind 28-7 this season to capture the District 10-5A-I crown.

The Sharks were a different team in the second half as they took control of the third quarter to go on a 23-0 scoring spree to grab a 30-23 advantage.

Running back Marquez Huland lead the charge as he scored on a 37-yard dash to close the gap to 23-15 and then George completed a pass to Kealon Jackson for the 2-point conversion.

Porter was forced to punt on their next possession putting the Sharks on their own 17 to begin their next drive.

Huland reeled off a long-run to the Porter 38 and after a couple more plays, George hooked up with Ashton O'Conner for a 7-yard touchdown strike. George scored on the 2-point keeper to bring Shadow Creek to a 23-23 tie with eight minutes left in the third period.

With less than a minute to go in the third, Shadow Creek found the end zone again as Huland bolted across the goal line on a 2-yard score. Greg Ezechukwu booted the PAT giving the Sharks their first lead of the game 30-23.

Shadow Creek's defense continued to frustrate Porter's offense as Jaylen Lane got an interception at his own 40.

Huland ripped off a 21-yard run to the Porter 39 and then finished off the drive on the next carry with a 39-yard scoring jaunt to put the Sharks up 37-23 following the PAT.

The Spartans found the end zone with about five minutes remaining in the game to cut the lead to 37-30 on an 8-yard scoring run.

After the Porter defense forced a Shadow Creek punt, the Spartans drove to the Sharks 38 with around two minutes left to go in the game, but the Shadow Creek defense held Porter on downs and took over at their own 48 to run out the clock for the playoff win.

George was 16-of-25 passing for 150 yards and two TDs with one INT.

Huland had 21 carries for 173 yards and three scores.

Guidry had two catches for 65 yards and one score while Jackson had five grabs for 23 yards.
