A balanced scoring attack by Shadow Creek gave the Sharks a convincing win over the Alvin Yellowjackets in a District 23-6A contest that kept the Sharks a game back of league-leading Dawson.

The top two places from the region championship automatically advance to the state championship on Friday-Saturday, February 17-18 at Lee & Joe Jamail Swim Center on the University of Texas campus in Austin.

While Dawson gave a 100 percent effort against Pearland, the Lady Eagles fell to 15-16 on the season and 5-6 in district which eliminated them from the post-season.

Now that the papers have been signed and delivered, student-athletes can focus on the rest of their senior year - to concentrate on their studies and spring sports before it will be time to head to their respective schools to begin their educational and athletic careers at the collegiate level. It certainly is a dream come true for all.

Do you remember when it was all right to fill your cup with coffee -add all the ingredients, then to tip the cup at an angle so the coffee could spiII over into the saucer and slurp your coffee?

The battle in District 23-6A is a little half over and the Oilers are trying to stay in playoff contention, but youth and inexperience seems to be the biggest hurdle for head coach Steve Buckelew and his hardcourt warriors.

Unfortunately, Dawson (16-16, 5-5) must face Pearland and Shadow Creek in the final two district games which will make it difficult for them to extend their season. But there is still that chance for the Lady Eagles.

Shadow Creek improved to 19-12 overall and 6-3 in league action which places them in second place behind league-leading Pearland (9-0).

For the sixth time in the past ten years, the Friendswood Mustangs were selected as a finalist for the Sportsmanship Award by the Touchdown Club of Houston. Joining them this year was Pearland, Shadow Creek, and Manvel from our area schools which is a great honor and tribute to the players and coaching staffs for each school.

Pearland (27-3, 9-0) and Shadow Creek (19-12, 6-3) have punched their tickets to the post-season while the Lady Oilers have clinched the District 23-6A title and the No. 1 seed entering the playoffs.

Friendswood used an 8-1 run to begin the third period thanks to a 3-pointer from senior guard Benjamin Burke, a putback from junior post Luke Ballard and another 3-pointer from Baker for a 40-34 lead. Santa Fe was not able to get closer than five points for the remainder of the game.

The Lady Oilers were only challenged by Shadow Creek who pressed the Lady Oilers to double overtime before Pearland pulled out the win.

The Friendswood girls scored 293 points to edge Clear Creek who scored 281 points. The Friendswood boys scored 328 points to finish ahead of Clear Springs (188).

The No. 11 state-ranked Lady Oilers have a sparkling 22-3 overall mark while carving out a 4-0 district record so far this season.

The Lady Eagles return two starters back in Kennedy Ford, Dawson's all-time leading scorer, and Sarah Allison. Joining these players include lettermen Ziara James, Kennedy Smith, and Miracle Gibson with Kendall Ford added to the lineup.

"This is the youngest team I've ever coached in my 28 years at Pearland," said head coach Steve Buckelew ."The Oilers have some challenges rebounding as the game is moving very fast for some of the players."

The Friendswood girls won with a total of 295 points followed by Foster (160), Ball High (20, and La Porte (17). The Friendswood boys won with a total of 205 points followed by Foster (187), La Porte (55), and Ball High (42).
