Dawson nips North Shore to advance to 6A region semifinals
February 18, 2025
This is the second time that the Lady Eagles have advanced to the region quarterfinals (2013). Dawson won the District 22-6A title with a perfect 16-0 record. This is the first outright district championship for the Lady Eagles. They shared the district championship in 2012-2013 when they were in District 24-4A. Dawson and Friendswood finished in a tie for first place at 13-1.
Dawson opened up the post-season with a 47-39 win over Fort Bend Travis to advance to the area round against North Shore.
The game against the Lady Mustangs wasn't quite so easy for the Lady Eagles in the back-and-forth affair.
North Shore jumped out to a 11-8 first quarter lead but the Lady Eagles battled back in the second period to even up the game 8-5 making the score 16-16 at intermission.
Dawson came out strong in the third quarter 15-12 to take a 31-28 lead entering the final frame.
North Shore continued their strong play in the fourth to take the quarter 17-15 but it wasn't enough down the stretch as the Lady Eagles held off their comeback surge to hold on for the 46-45 area round win.
Dawson advances to the third round for the second time in school history (2013) and will face the Katy Taylor Mustangs (26-8) on Tuesday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Randle High School.
Katy Taylor is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last week. They breezed past Bellaire to the tune of 84-40. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Taylor has won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 26-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points over those games.
Dawson enters the game as the Class 6A No. 1 team in the state as ranked by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
