August 30, 2021
PEARLAND DAWSON — Clear Falls used to be a football program that everyone liked to play because the Knights were an easy win. But that has all changed and the Dawson Eagles found themselves on the short end against the 2020 regional finalist who were 8-4 last season.
With 10 defensive starter returning for the 2021 season, the Eagles were held to a mere 101 total yards that included only 30 yards through the air.
Meanwhile, the Knights had 310 rushing yards and 114 passing yards for a total of 424 yards against an Eagles which had no answer for the Clear Falls offense.
Clear Falls opened the scoring with a 79-yard scoring bomb from QB Cam Robertson to WR Luke Vidal with 1:00 left in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.
The Knights struck again with 6:58 left in the second period on a David Smith 8-yard run to increase the lead to 14-0.
Clear Falls got 38-yard field goal on the final play of the first half for a 17-0 halftime advantage.
Neither team found the end zone in the third quarter, but the Eagles finally broke through for a score at the beginning of the fourth frame with an 11-yard scoring toss from QB Colin Johnson to WR Ashton Stroman. Carter Brown added the extra point with 10:41 left in the fourth making the score 17-7.
However, the Knights shut down the Eagles the rest of the way and added two more Smith scoring runs covering 8 and 45 yards to post the final score of 31-7.
Johnson was 8-of-17 passing for only 30 yards and one score while Bryce Burgess led the ground attack with 15 carries for 59 yards. Stroman caught two passes for 30 yards and one TD.
Smith finished the game for Clear Falls with 143 yards rushing on 26 carries and three scores.
