Friendswood girls crowned Region V-5A champions; boys place second

The girls scored 550 points to easily finish in first place over Ft. Bend Kempner (338), Angleton (243), Beaumont West Brook (141), Barbers Hill (130), and Ball High (121).
Thirty FHS swimmers and one FHS Diver competed against athletes from 22 region schools.
The top two places from the region championship automatically advance to the state championship on February 21 and 22 at The University of Texas in Austin.
In each event, after all eight regional meets were complete, the UIL “calls up” the next fastest eight times in each event from around the state in which one additional FHS swimmer qualified.
Friendswood has 13 swimmers and one diver heading to state: They are: Olivia Esbeck, Edi Jakob, Andi Jeanes, Carmen Laurito, Kk LeBlanc, Paige McCray, Lauren Tillman, Taylor Welch, Nick Hardt, Nate Henderson, Simon Kinsworthy, Caleb Livesay, Jovan Stojkovski, and Grayson Wells.
Congratulations to senior KK LeBlanc on breaking five regional records, Don Cook Natatorium pool records, and FHS Mustang records:
Girls 200 Free – Region, Don Cook pool, and Mustang record of 1:47.06
Girls 100 Free – Don Cook pool and Mustang record of 49.22
LeBlanc won the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle at state last year while she garnered a bronze medal as a member of the Lady Mustangs third-place 400-meter relay team. She will be favored to defend her two gold medals this year.
