Friendswood rushes past Beaumont United 21-7

FRIEDNSWOOD — After dropping the first four games of the 2021 football season, the Friendswood Mustangs posted their second straight win to improve to 2-4 and 2-1 in district action.
The Mustangs traveled to Beaumont ISD Stadium to face Beaumont United in a District 9-5A Div. I contest and returned home with a 21-7 win to put them back in the post-season picture.
The two teams battled in the first half with Beaumont United scoring late in the second quarter to edge the Mustangs for a 7-0 lead at intermission.
But Friendswood's offense finally kicked in while the defense stood staunch to shut out the Timberwolves in the second half.
The Mustangs tied up the game on a Jackson Rhodes 41-yard rushing touchdown to make the score 7-7.
At the seven minute mark of the fourth quarter, Rhodes scored on a 12-yard touchdown to move the Mustangs in front 14-7.
With less than a minute remaining in the game, Jared Yawn sealed the win for Friendswood with a 1-yard scoring plunge to post the 21-7 final score.
Rhodes finished the game with 140 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns while Caleb Corkran had 112 yards on 25 totes.
Friendswood can make it three in a row when they face the La Porte Bulldogs (1-5, 1-2) on Friday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. La Porte picked up their first win of the season with a 24-19 victory over the Baytown Sterling Rangers (3-3, 1-2).
