Grand slam by Riassetto gives Lady Mustangs 5-3 win

FRIENDSWOOD — Friendswood was trailing 2-0 to La Porte in the bottom of the third when Chloe Riassetto came to the plate with the bases full.

With the La Porte pitcher experiencing some control issues, Riassetto took the first pitch over the scoreboard beyond the right-field fence and hit the screen protecting the Friendswood baseball diamond for a grand slam home run and a 4-2 lead.

“She tattooed it. It’s the hardest ball I’ve seen hit here ever,” said Friendswood head coach Christina Williams-Yates. “She hit it over their stands and hit their netting. I knew it was way out. I just didn’t know where it was going to land.”

The Lady Mustangs are now 12-1 in the District 22-5A standings with La Porte and Santa Fe at 9-3.

Riassetto made her mark in another way as she moved from first base to the pitching circle to close out the final four innings of the game to give Friendswood a 5-3 win.

Janelle Wilson pitched the first three frames for Friendswood before Riassetto took over in relief. Wilson allowed two runs on four hits while striking out a pair and walking one. Riassetto record five strike outs and three walks while giving up one run.
