Dawson senior wide receiver Chase Davis returns a kickoff vs the Manvel Mavericks.

Davis was a bright spot for Dawson's offense with a total of 113 yards on a night where the Eagles struggled to find any rhythm. The Mavericks scored first, and Dawson tied it at 7-7 but after that it was all Manvel the rest of the night as they ran away to a 48-7 victory.

The loss puts Dawson into the 4th and final playoff spot in District 22-6A. Dawson has a bye this final week of the season and will now hope for Manvel to defeat Dobie on Thursday to prevent a tie-breaker scenario that could potentially knock Dawson out of the playoffs.

As the post-season approaches, the game between Dawson and Manvel had playoff implications with Dawson in the driver's seat while Manvel had to win the game.

Manvel left little doubt as to the outcome as they took over the game from the start and never took their foot off the gas as they got a convincing 48-7 district win.

The only way that Dawson doesn't make the playoffs is if Manvel falls to Pasadena Dobie by 14 or more points in the season finale but based on the way Manvel played -- that's not going to happen so Manvel and Dawson should advance to the playoffs with Shadow Creek (9-1, 8-0, District Champion) and Pearland (8-2, 7-1).

It took Manvel less than two minutes to score on their opening possession as QB Cam Renfro scored untouched on a 33-yard keeper at the 10:05 mark of the first quarter. The PAT hit the mark and the Mavs had a 7-0 lead.

On Dawson's first possession, the Eagles were forced to punt after three straight incomplete passes. Thanks to a 66-yard punt by Ayden Treadaway, the Mavs set up their offense on their own 10.

Manvel punted but got the ball back when DB Kenneth Leaks intercepted a Max Zavala pass, but Dawson got the ball back on a James Higgins fumble recovery at their own 32.

The Eagles finally tied up the game when RB Jerimiah Treadaway scored on a 5-yard run with 8:04 left in the second quarter. Ayden Treadaway hit the PAT making the score 7-7.

That would be as close as it would get for Dawson as Manvel score two more times in the first half for a 21-7 lead at intermission.

The second half belonged totally to the Mavericks as they scored 27 unanswered points to post the 48-7 final score.

When the dust cleared, the Mavs had outgained the Eagles 554 total yards (281 rushing, 273 passing) to 114 total yards (38 rushing, 106 passing).

Renfro was 13-of-19 passing for 273 yards and three TDs while rushing for 115 yards on 13 carries and two more scores. The junior QB had 388 total yards on offense.

Kenneth Malone-Hayes added 94 yards on 13 totes and one score.

Antoine Wilder was the top receiver for the Mavs with five catches for 108 yards and one TD. Xaiden Brown had two grabs for 72 yards and one TD. Joshua Irvin had three catches for 71 yards and one TD.

For Dawson, Zavala was 11-for-22 for 106 yards and one INT.

Jerimiah Treadaway was held to 13 carries for 16 yards.

Corey Brown had five catches for 54 yards.

Dawson closes out the regular season with a 6-4 overall record and 5-3 in district.

Manvel will face Dobie on Thursday, November 7 at Veterans Memorial Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
