Lady Oilers crush Dawson 12-6 to remain perfect in district

2025 Pearland Softball Varsity Team

State-ranked Pearland (21-6) punched their ticket to the playoffs with a solid 12-6 win over cross-town cousin Dawson while improving their record to 12-0 in league play.

Meanwhile, Dawson drops to 6-6 in district which is good for a three-way tie for fourth place with Shadow Creek and Manvel.

The Lady Eagles (9-12-1) are on a two-game skid after losing to Shadow Creek last week 12-11 in which they scored eight runs in the first inning for an 8-0 lead before watching the Lady Sharks rally to get the win. Shadow Creek beat Dawson in the first round 10-8.

Pearland opened up the game with two runs in the top of the first but Dawson responded with five runs in their half of the frame for a quick 5-2 lead.

The Lady Oilers added another run in the top of the second inning and then both teams went scoreless until the fifth frame when Pearland batted around to score eight runs and take control of the game 11-5.

Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning and then Pearland closed out the final frame to grab the 12-6 district win.

Pearland scored 12 runs on 12 hits while soph Madelyn Farmer was the winning pitcher who went seven innings and allowed eight hits, three runs, while striking out two and walking two.

Leading hitters for the Lady Oilers were Kaylee Schweitzer (2-for-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 2B), Payton Powell (2-for-3, 3 runs, 2 RBIs), Payton Shugart (3-for-5, 4 RBIs, 3 2Bs), Layla Bennett (1-for-2, 1 run), Sydney Mann (2-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), and Laila Nobles (2-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI, HR).

Pearland travels to face Dobie on Friday, April 4 at 4:00 p.m.

Dawson travels to face South Houston on Friday, April 4 at 4:00 p.m.
