Lady Oilers thrash Fort Bend Travis 22-3 in playoff opener
April 27, 2025
Pearland opened the game with one run in the top of the first and the Lady Tigers answered with two runs in their half of the first fame despite not getting a hit off starting pitcher junior Madelyn Guzman. The unearned runs were courtesy of two Pearland errors.
Those would be the last runs that Travis would see as Pearland erupted for three runs in the second, eight runs in the third, four runs in the fourth, and six runs in the fifth while Travis managed one in the fourth leaving the Lady O's with a 22-3 rout of the Lady Tigers after five innings.
The hitting attack for Pearland was led by junior second baseman Layla Bennett who went 4-for-5 with eight RBIs, including a three-run double and a three-run homer over the centerfield wall in the fifth frame.
Other leading hitters included senior Kaylee Schweitzer (1-for-4, three runs, 2 RBIs), junior Payton Shugart (3-for-4, 3 RBIs), senior Laila Nobles (2-for-5, 1 run, 4 RBIs), junior Anison Lopez (3-for-4, 2 runs), and senior Sydney Mann (2-for-3, 1 run).
Guzman picked up the win in the pitching circle as she allowed three runs on three hits while striking out six and walking three.
Pearland scored 22 runs off 15 hits while committing four errors.
