Pearland roundballers bounce Alvin 63-52

The Brown's celebrated Devan's rare accomplishment before the district game with Alvin which the Oilers won 63-52. Devan scored 21 points in the win to lead Pearland.

Pearland faced a much-improved Alvin basketball squad but the results were the same as the Oilers took a 63-52 district win over the Yellowjackets.

The win was the Oilers 11th straight win for the season that improved their record to 13-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The beginning of the game saw Devan Brown, son of head coach Delrick Brown, fired in his 1,000th career point. Coach Brown also scored over 1,000 points when he played for the Oilers in high school making them the first Pearland father-son duo to accomplish such a feat.

Devan Brown went on to be the leading scorer against the Jackets with 21 points.

Pearland took control of the game early with a 14-9 first quarter lead.

Sophomore Ty Ennis set the pace with three 3-pointers for nine points in the opening frame to lead the Oilers on offense.

Alvin countered with Sr. Evan Falcon who tossed in seven of the nine first quarter points for the Jackets.

The second quarter saw the Jackets tie up the game until the Oilers went on a 10-0 run late in the frame to take a 36-26 halftime advantage.

Pearland Sr Byron Bibbs led the offensive charge with seven points while Brown and Jr Mikael Harlan each tossed in five points.

The Oilers increased the lead scoring 18-14 in the third quarter and closed out the game in the fourth frame 12-9 for the 63-52 win.

Brown led the Oilers with 21, Ennis had 17, and Bibbs tossed in 11.

Pearland was 6-of-10 from the free throw line while throwing in nine 3-pointers.

Alvin hit 5-of-9 from the charity stripe while tossing in seven three points, six by Jr. Ayden Owens.

The Jackets fall to 7-9 overall and 0-2 in district.

Pearland travels to Manvel on Tuesday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. to play the Mavericks and then the Oilers will host the Dawson Eagles on Friday, December 19 at 5:00 p.m.
