Pearland roundballers remain atop district leaderboard

Pearland continued to keep their undefeated district record intact at 10-0 with wins over Sam Rayburn (53-24) and Alvin (61-51) last week.

Pearland 53 - Sam Rayburn 24

The Oilers hosted Sam Rayburn who is winless in league play this season and they remained that way after Pearland sent them home with a lopsided 53-24 defeat.

The Texans were held to single digits in each quarter as the Oilers opened up the first period with an 18-8 advantage.

Pearland continued their dominance by scoring 19 points in the second quarter while limiting Rayburn to eight points for a 37-16 halftime lead.

Head coach Delrick Brown emptied his bench in the second half to make the win a total team effort.

The Oilers outscored the visitors 10-6 in the third quarter and closed out the district contest 6-2 in the fourth period for the 53-24 win.

Devan Brown led the Oilers offensive attack with 14 points while getting help from Byron Bibbs (11 points) and Tyylon Ennis (10 points).

The Oilers shot 60% from the field (15-og-25) but only made 2-of-10 (20%) from the free throw line. They also hit 7-of-22 from the 3-point arc (31.8%).

Pearland 61 - Alvin 51

For years, Pearland roundballers have dominated the Alvin Yellowjackets but there has been noticeable improvement as they have challenged the Oilers this season.

The outcome has been the same as Pearland has beaten the Jackets in both of their district encounters, but Alvin has been much more competitive.

The Oilers got the jump on the Jackets in the opening quarter as they outscored the home team 23-15, but the Jackets took control of the second period to close the gap 17-13 to make the score at intermission 36-32 in favor of the Oilers.

Pearland came out strong in the third period 11-6 for a 47-38 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

The final frame saw both teams battle with Pearland edging Alvin 14-13 to post the 61-51 final score.

Devan Brown led the scoring attack for the Oilers with a game-high 24 points while getting strong help from Tyylon Eddis who tossed in 21 points.

Alvin was led by Aydan Owens who scored 12 points while Evan Falcon scored 11.

Pearland hit 10-of-22 from the 3-point arc and were 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Brown was 3-of-6 from 3-point land while Ennis hit 5-of-7 from long range.
