Lady Oilers open playoffs with 69-37 win over Clear Creek

The Lady Oilers had no problem in winning the game 69-37 to advance to the area round to face Beaumont Westbrook at Barbers Hill HS on Thursday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The girls basketball post-season has officially begun, and the Pearland Lady Oilers answered the bell in dominating fashion with a 69-37 win over the Clear Creek Lady Wildcats.

Pearland displayed a suffocating defense and an aggressive offense that left no doubt as to the outcome of this contest.

The Lady Oilers advance to the 6A Region III area round to face Beaumont Westbrook at Barbers Hill HS on Thursday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The opening period saw the Lady Oilers build a comfortable 14-6 advantage but the Lady Wildcats made a late 5-0 run in the second quarter to close the gap 17-16 leaving Pearland with a 31-22 lead at intermission.

Pearland began the second half by hitting three straight 3-pointers to jump out to a quick 40-22 lead and they never looked back as they outscored the Lady Wildcats 21-8 for a 52-30 advantage entering the final frame.

While the offense was clicking on all cylinders -- the Pearland defense also began the second half by forcing three consecutive Creek turnovers.

The fourth quarter continued the Lady O's dominance as Pearland outscored Creek 17-7 to post the 69-37 final score.

The Lady Wildcats close out the season with a 19-14 overall mark while Pearland improves to 33-4.

Pearland was led by freshman A’zyua Blair (20 points, 5 assists, 1 steal), senior Nyah Hardy (15 points, 3 assists) and freshman Shiloh Grays (10 points, 5 rebounds).
