Pearland pounds Clear Brook 9-0, 11-1 from playoffs

PEARLAND — The Pearland Oilers won the District 23-6A crown and entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed. The Clear Brook Wolverines were the No. 4 seed from District 24-6A.
Pearland and Clear Brook agreed to play a best-of-three series in the Class 6A Region III bi-district round and the Oilers easily eliminated the Wolverines 9-0 in Game 1 and 11-1 in Game 2.
Mark Zapata earned the victory on the mound for Pearland as he tossed all seven innings, allowing three hits and no runs while striking out seven and walking one.
Meanwhile, his teammates provided plenty offense as they banged out eight hits for nine runs for the 9-0 shutout.
The Oilers scored a run in the top of the third for a 1-0 lead and then scored four runs in back-to-back innings in the fourth and fifth frames.
Leading the way on offense for Pearland was Anthony Avalos (2-for-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 2B), John Moya (2-for-4, 1 run, 3 RBIs, 2B), Caden Ferraro (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, 2B). and Isaiah Castaneda (1-for-2, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 2B).

Pearland left no doubt in the second game of the best-of-three series against Clear Brook and the Oilers got a convincing 11-1 win to end the season for the Wolverines.
The Oilers set the pace in the opening frame with five runs for a 5-0 lead thanks to six hits by the offense.
Caden Ferraro earned the victory on the hill as the lefthander surrendered one run on three hits over five innings, striking out four and walking one.
The Oilers continued their offensive display with three more runs in the third and three in the fifth to put the 10-run mercy rule in effect to end the game 11-1. The Wolverines scored their run in the top of the fifth.
Pearland finished the game with 11 runs on 14 hits.
