Lady Oilers stay atop District 23-6A leaderboard


PEARLAND — The Pearland Lady Oilers have won nine straight district games after suffering an 11-1 loss to Alvin to being the district race.

Since that time, head coach Laneigh Clark has seen her girls put together nine straight league games including a 3-2 win over Alvin to avenge the first round loss.

Last week, Pearland run-ruled Alief Taylor (16-0) and Alief Hastings (15-0) to improve to 9-1 with two games remaining in league play.

Pearland 16 - Alief Taylor 0

It took only three innings for Pearland to dispose of Alief Taylor 16-0 as the Lady Oilers improved to 22-6 on the season and 8-1 in district action.

Three different pitchers tossed one inning each as Abigail Gutierrez, Isela Flores, and Katelyn Carpenter took their turn in the pitching circle. Guttierrez struck out three while Flores and Carpenter each fanned two batter. Flores allowed the only harmless hit while no one allowed a run or walk.

Pearland scored seven runs in the top of the first and added four in the second and five in the third for a 16-0 win.

The Lady O's banged out 11 hits led by Kennedy Drafton (3-for-3, 2 runs, 6 RBIs), Hailey Golden (2-for-3, 1 run), Raenna Liscano (2-for-2, 3 runs, 1 RBI), Kristyn Whitlock (1-for-1, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Alayna Calvillo (2-for-2, 3 RBIs), and Anya Lopez (1-for-1, 1 run, 2 RBIs).

Pearland 15 - Alief Hastings 0

It only took two innings for the Lady Oilers to beat Alief Hastings 15-0. Pearland scored eight runs in the first frame and seven runs in the second to end the game after three innings.

Three different pitchers tossed one inning each as Abigail Gutierrez, Isela Flores, and Katelyn Carpenter took their turn in the pitching circle. Each pitcher fanned three batters when it came their turn while not allowing a hit or runner to get on base for a perfect three frames.

Offensively, Pearland had 10 hits while scoring 15 runs with no strikeouts and seven walks.

Kristyn Whitlock and Grace Gonzalez led the offense as both were 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs apiece.

Pearland has two district games remaining as they will face Shadow Creek (late Tuesday) and will host Dawson on Friday, April 22 at 6:45 p.m. at Pearland HS.

The Lady Oilers are now 23-6 overall and 9-1 in the district standings for first place.
