Shadow Creek opens playoffs with 71-60 win over Clements

Shadow Creek's Michael Collins led the Sharks with 25 points against the Clements Rangers in the opening round of the Class 6A Region III-Div. II playoffs.

It's playoff time, and Shadow Creek had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Fort Bend Clements Rangers by a score of 71-60 in the opening round of the Class 6A Region III - Div. II playoffs. The Sharks have won 14 straight games and are the No. 5 team in 6A.

Shadow Creek's win bumped their record up to 30-2. As for Fort Bend Clements, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-12 to end their season.

The Sharks were faced with the task of guarding, Aziz and Malik Olajuwon, the two son's of NBA Hall of Famer and former Houston Rocket Hakeem Olajuwon.

While the pair combined for 33 points, the Sharks countered with Michael Collins (25 points) and Bryce Jackson (20 points) for 45 total points.

The Sharks built an 18-11 first quarter lead as Collins tossed in a pair of 3-pointers and the Sharks hit a total of four long-range bombs in the first eight minutes.

Shadow Creek continued their offense show with 14 points in the second period while Clements stayed close behind with 13 to make the score 32-24 at intermission.

Malik Olajuwon led the Rangers with 12 points in the first half.

Bryce Jackson (7 pts) and Collins (6 pts) led the Shadow Creek offense in the third quarter as the Sharks took the frame 17-16 for a 49-40 advantage leading to the final period.

Both teams had their greatest output in the fourth quarter as the Sharks edged the Rangers 22-20 which allowed the Sharks to post the 71-60 final score.

Collins took game-high scoring honors with 25 points while Jackson was close behind with 20 points.

Shadow Creek advances to the Class 6A Region III-Div II area round where they will face the Kingwood Mustangs.
