PEARLAND — The Dawson Lady Eagles began last week in a tie for first place in the 24-4A standings, but a 56-54 loss to Ball High has the Lady Eagles in second place with the second round of district action come to a close.
Dawson took command of the game in the opening period 16-9, but the Lady Tors came roaring back in the second quarter to outscore the visitors 18-5 to take a 26-21 lead into the dressing room at intermission.
Both teams played the third quarter even at 14-14 sending the game into the fourth frame with the Lady Tors clinging to a 40-35 advantage.
The Lady Eagles worked hard to rally in the fourth to outscore Ball High 19-15, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Tors hung on for the 56-54 district win.
Kasi Matthews led the offense with 13 points for the Lady Eagles followed by Cree Hammond who tossed in 11 points.
Dawson 64 - Galena Park 22
The Lady Eagles rebounded from the loss to Ball High to thrash the Galena Park Lady Yellowjackets 64-22.
Cree Hammond led the attack with 14 points while Monica Gomes tossed in 11 for the Lady Eagles.
Dawson took the first quarter 21-7 and then increased the lead 15-5 in the second period for a commanding 36-12 halftime lead.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Lady Eagles won the third quarter 15-5 and finished off the Lady Jackets 13-5 in the final frame to post the 64-22 win to get back on the winning track.
