Lockhart leads Friendswood past Dickinson 5-0

FRIENDSWOOD — Lael Lockhart was at the top of his game as he fanned 10 Dickinson Gator batters, allowed only one hit and walked four as the Mustangs used a nine-hit attack for a 5-0 shutout win.

Lockhart entered the top of the seventh with a no-hitter when a single broke up his no-hit bid.

Ryan Shetter had a hot bat for Friendswood 2-for-3 as drove in an RBI and scored one run. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Mustangs put up three runs for a 3-0 lead.

They tacked on two more runs in the sixth for insurance as Shetter had Dickinson in the palm of his hand.

Carson Kaufman pitched 2/3 of an inning to close out the District 24-6A contest.

Friendswood 18 - Clear Lake 8

The Friendswood Mustangs blew out the Clear Lake Falcons 18-8 in a District 24-6A contest.

Sixteen runs in the opening three innings allowed Friendswood to put away Clear Lake.

An RBI single by Connor Whitaker, a two-run double by Ryan Shetter, and a sacrifice fly by Erik Spong in the first inning gave the Mustangs a 4-0 lead.

Friendswood's offense erupted with 12 runs in the second inning sparked by a hit by pitch, a walk by Shetter, a bases loaded walk, a walk by Carson Kaufman, an RBI single by Jacob Gwynne, a two-run single by Ryan Bertelsman, a hit by pitch, and a home run by Shetter fueled the blowout.

Shetter racked up seven RBIs on two hits to lead the offense while getting the win on the mound.

Clear Lake attempted to get back in the game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second, one in the third, four in the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the margin to 16-8 to keep the game from the 10-run mercy rule.

However, Friendswood added two more in the top of the seventh to make the final 18-8.
