FRIENDSWOOD — November has been a good month for Friendswood gridiron standout Bobby Brown who received two honors.
The defensive star was named as a finalist by the Touchdown Club of Houston for their annual scholar-athlete award where he received a $500 scholarship on Nov. 9.
Also, during the month of November, Brown was awarded a scholarship by “The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame” as a Class of 2012 “Scholar-Athlete."
The letter he received read, "As a nominee, you are presented with this enclosed certificate from the National Football Foundation/College Hall of Fame. Also, as a nominee, your name will be placed into the databse of the College Football Hall of Fame. You will be able to pull up your name in the Hall of Fame computer listed among the greatest players ever to play the game of football. Receipt of this award places you among the top one percent of all high school football players in the U.S. for both academics and athletics.
The winsome Brown was also honored as the Prime Way Federal Credit Union "Student-Athete of the Week" during the regular football season.
“It is hard to say who at Friendswood has had the largest impact on me," Brown said. "I have been blessed to play for a legend like coach Van Meter, as well as a position coach like coach Lindsey. Coach Thomas has inspired me to leadership as a varsity team captain.
"As inspirational as my coaches have been my advanced computer science teacher Mrs. Walter, inspired our Spheres team which allowed our software to be run by NASA in space, my advanced Calculus teacher, Mrs. Gillespie, has inspired my love of mathematics and her husband, my Boy Scout leader, inspired me to become an Eagle Scout. My advanced Chemistry teacher, Mrs. Lawrence, has inspired my love of chemistry. Even my principal, coach Griffon, inspired my coaching a little league football team for three years to an undefeated season. As excited as I am to continue in college, any college will have a lot to live up to after my exceptional Friendswood High School experience.”
