Lady Mustangs snap 67-game winning streak

FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Lady Mustangs have adapted to their new classification in basketball and they made a huge statement to the rest of their district foes after snapping the 67-game winning streak of the Clear Springs Lady Chargers 54-51.
The game was a back-and-forth affair with 31 lead changes and 11 ties throughout the contest.
Both teams battled to a 41-41 tie entering the final period.
With 3:35 left in the game, the Lady Chargers took a two-point lead. However, Friendswood's Kayla Callaway pumped in a 3-pointer but Clear Springs answered for a 48-46 advantage.
Alex Frankhouser was fouled and hit both free throws to knot up the game at the 3 minute mark.
Turnovers played a factor in the next 90 seconds for both teams until Kristen Cole hit a short bucket giving Friendswood a 50-48 edge.
Clear Springs misfired twice with Frankhouser getting the rebound in which she was immediately fouled. She sank both free throws with 44.7 seconds left while giving the Lady Mustangs a 52-48 lead.
With 21.2 seconds left, Clear Springs hit a huge 3-pointer cutting the lead to 52-51.
Frankhouser was immediately fouled where she continued to make Clear Springs pay at the charity stripe sinking both for a 54-51 lead with 13.3 left.
The Lady Chargers attempted one more 3-pointer which missed the mark giving the Lady Mustangs the hard-earned win.
"It's a great, great program win for us," Friendswood head coach Darren Scott said. "
Friendswood got a great effort out of Abby Roenne who scored 12 points in the paint. Frankhouser led the team with 17 points while Callaway added nine. Magie Roher scored eight and Cole tossed in five points.
Friendswood followed up the win with a 61-50 win over the Clear Creek Lady Wildcats on Friday.
Friendswood junior guard Kayla Callaway, senior point guard Maggie Roher and junior center Kristen Cole sparked a fourth quarter run that proved to be the difference in the Lady Mustangs’ win.
