Friendswood boys fall in first round

FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood boys first-ever Class 6A playoff soccer match ended in disappointment as the Mustangs came up short 2-1.

Friendswood junior midfielder Brian Cassady put the Mustangs on the scoreboard early in the first half for a 1-0 lead.

Cassady barely missed a second goal when the ball bounced off the cross bar on a free kick. Unfortunately, Cassady would go down with an injury and not return in the second half.

Friendswood head coach Stephen Peter had faith in his defense to shut out Taylor.

"I knew it was going to be tough," Peter said. "But, I had faith in us defensively. We had given up only one goal twice all year in the second half."

With the Mustangs battling hard in the second half, Taylor scored to knot up the game 1-1 in the 34th minute.

Taylor would score less than two minutes later for a 2-1 advantage with less than four minutes left in the game which would end up being the final score.
